One of my pet peeves of makeup is when you spend time and effort doing eyeshadow and it slides around like nobody’s business! Where is the respect these days?! SO, I thought I would share my top five tips for long lasting eyeshadow. Let’s go!
Five Tips for Long Lasting Eyeshadow
1: Set your concealer/foundation: If you have used a concealer or foundation around your eyelids use a powder to set it in place. I love the E.L.F HD Undereye Setting Powder. This gives you a solid base to start working with!
2: Prime: Have you heard the saying “it’s a crime not to prime”? Well, if you do the crime, you do the time! This applies just as much to your eyeshadow as it does to foundation. Priming your eyelids almost acts like a glue (for desperate want of a better word!). It gives the eyeshadow something to hold on to and holds it in place throughout the day! My favourite product to use is the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, these are affordable, come in a range of colours and are easily available! There are many eyeshadow primers out there though, so find something that is easiest for you.
3: Eyeshadows have layers: just like ogres and onions, eyeshadows have layers. You don’t have to sit there all day layering and blending, layering and blending. BUT spending a little more time doing a few (I usually do 2 or 3) thinner layers really gives you longer wear throughout the day.
4: BLEND: Between each layer lightly blend out any harsh lines or areas of product build up. This makes a HUMONGOUS difference to how your eyeshadow looks and lasts. Product build up often leads to product smudging. If there is less product build up there is less chance of it smearing around the place. You don’t need to be a pro to blend out eyeshadow. TIP: take a clean eyeshadow brush (or finger) along the edge of your eyeshadow and ‘swish’ it lightly back and forth in window wiper motions. This is all blending is, tapering off the eyshadow for a faded edge. – If you would like more details on blending let me know in the comments and I can do a whole post or tutorial on it! 😀
5: Press don’t rub!: when you have an itch or a twitch or anything that requires you touching your eye area, DO NOT RUB IT! Rubbing smears things around or gets rid of it all together! Not ideal! Instead press on the area gently with your finger, press down and wiggle your finger a little if you must but do not rub!
That’s it! Five easy tips for long lasting eyeshadow! Do you have a secret weapon when it comes to making your eyeshadow last?
